Destiny- Touch of Malice

Client: Bungie
Materials: SC300 urethane resin, MDF, styrene, apoxie, fabric, ferrofluid
Total parts: 14
The Touch of Malice was created for Bungie in 2016 and was my last project made using entirely traditional handcrafting techniques. The greatest challenge was replicating the organic, malevolent look posed by the weapon using only wood, clay, foams, and plastics. For the "heart" of the weapon, I suspended a magnetic sphere in the center of the gyroscope and injected ferrofluid for a nice imitation of the dark matter that is Oryx's essence. Each part was molded and cast for the final piece, which was a task in and of itself to duplicate such large/complex shapes. Finally a light was inserted into the little sight that could be activated with a press of a button. Concept by Jesse Van Dijk, hard surface by Mark Van Haitsma.
